The world we live in requires a lot of plans to survive. As per the end of 2021 there was only one billionaire in the entire universe. Elon musk was not born a millionaire, he was an average boy who had to work hard to get where he is now. When I started blogging sometime in 2019 being a freshman in the university, I never knew that one day my imagination will pay me.
Let me take you through the whole process. I started my blog in 2019 having spent nothing to get my website domain. And if you are wondering they are so many web hosting companies that can help you get started for free. The popular ones being BlogSpot and word press. I never knew I would even make a single cent from my sentimental writings. The first article I ever wrote was about my classmates and how exams are conducted in our university Click here to read, I managed to get 6 page views from people I forced to read. Reluctantly I went 2 weeks boycotting writing because I was writing for people who by then were not reading. My second article was a bit off. I thought about writing on relationships because many youths who btw were my main target love such topics.Realationship 101
It was no better than the first one, despite my efforts sharing on all my social media accounts; it only managed 2 more page views than the first one. At the point I had only remained with one option, quit and focus on my studies. And I did quit but only for 2 weeks. I came back but this time only I was not doing it for people to read. I would publish an article and just post on whatsapp status and my Facebook page which has since grown to almost 1.5k likes.
I wrote 3 articles that week from my imagination and to my surprise I got over 100 page views when I shared in one whatsapp group. I was happy because I knew I was heading somewhere. Don’t get me wrong I have a great imagination that I combine with great composition. By the end of that month I had written like 30 articles most of which were my own imagination. This was a lot considering I had no time considering I was a student with a lot of assignments.
A suggestion from my friend that I should monetize my blog and do affiliate marketing was the best advise any student has given me to date. The next day I was busy looking for companies that are into advertising. To cut the story short I employed myself with two, AdSense and Adssetra. As any other business you can never break through the first cycle. I was declined almost immediately, reason being that I had not met their terms conditions and policies.
I loved AdSense because they had only one condition to be met. It was neither hard nor easy, that entirely depended on the person writing those articles. You needed to have at least 10-20 articles that are searchable on Google. I had 30, half of which were copy pasted from popular sites li8ke TUKO, MPASHO, Nairobi gossip and PULSE Kenya. I spent 3 days brainstorming on what I should do and I finally got the grip of it. The first story was on trending topic ’baba Gloria ‘which trended on twitter sometime in august. With a little twist I completely made it my story.
Most of my next stories were twist of trending stories which increased my visibility on search engine. I re applied for monetization after I had clogged 50 stories, I was not expecting them to approve that fast, but the first email I got the next day was that they had approved my account and my own made website will start showing ads and start making money. I would get a 68% REVENUE on what advertisers spend. Well this is just the beginning of the story because it almost took me 2 months to make 5 Euros. Sharing links to everyone listed in my phone contact. 1 month and I was not improving, but I had gained some skills and that made me think outside the box. I had to come up with the tittle of my website to get first priority on Google. I jiggled many names but
I finally landed on 254 scope. It’s the code of Kenya and scope because my stories were twisted in a Kenyan perspective. So any time someone will search the Kenyan code my website would appear on the radar. In two weeks my page views had moved from 500 to 10k. But regardless I was not still earning enough. I was almost giving up when I did a story that cracked up and earned me almost half of the dollars I have been wanting to make for my first withdrawals. I did a story about fake degrees from UON and Tuk that got alot of view's almost 5k. Read here
You may think 5k is not much but it is. Blogger is much different than YouTube and other platforms. For every 100 views I would get £10 .
To cut the whole experience short I started doing affiliate marketing which an easy way you can make upto £800 a month if you target the right group.
